A Nematic LCD with Submillisecond Gray-to-gray Response Time

چکیده
We propose a triode structure for achieving submillisecond grayto-gray response time in a double fringing-field-switching (DFFS) cell. The bright and dark states are obtained by applying a fringing field and a vertical field, respectively. The simulated averaged grayscale rise time is 793 μs and decay time is 478 μs. This triode DFFS mode enables conventional nematic LCDs for color sequential displays, 3D displays, and other photonic applications. Author

Recent Advances on Polymer-Stabilized Blue Phase Liquid Crystal Materials and Devices
Polymer-stabilized blue phase liquid crystals (PS-BPLC) have become an increasingly important technology trend for information display and photonics applications. BPLCs exhibit several attractive features, such as reasonably wide temperature range, submillisecond gray-to-gray response time, no need for alignment layer, optically isotropic voltage-off state, and large cell gap tolerance. However...

We report a vertically-aligned liquid crystal display (LCD) device with submillisecond response time, high transmittance, and low operation voltage. The top substrate has a common electrode, while the bottom substrate consists of hole-patterned fringing-field-switching (FFS) pixel electrodes. A negative dielectric anisotropy LC is employed. In the voltage-on state, the LC directors are reorient...

Fenglin Peng Abstract — We report Fangwang Gou Haiwei Chen Yuge Huang Shin-Tson Wu a new LC with low viscosity and high clearing point (Tc ~102 °C) for colorsequential projection displays. Using a 1.95-μm mixed-mode twisted nematic cell, the averaged grayto-gray response time is less than 1ms, which is ~3.6× faster than the current state of the art. Such a mixed-mode twisted nematic liquid-crys...

متن کاملPolarizer-free liquid crystal display with double microlens array layers and polarization-controlling liquid crystal layer.
We propose a polarizer-free liquid crystal display (LCD) consisting of two microlens array (MLA) layers, a twisted nematic (TN) LC layer, and two light-blocking masks. By changing the polarization state, focal length of the LCD can be controlled. Since two light-blocking masks have a circular stop pattern and a complementary open pattern, entire gray-scale spectrum may be realized by controllin...
